1-0 out of 5 stars Disservice to Anyone Who Wants a Fundable Business Plan
This software is a joke for anyone who would want to use it to get a bank loan or venture capital. For example, you can set a 3-year or 5-year forecast. Then it asks you to apply a growth rate to your year 1 sales, and it applies that growth rate over the entire forecast. Anyone knows that growth rates vary year-to-year based on the stage of your business.

I won't even get into how bad the expense forecasting section is.

Anyone trying to raise money will be told their plan is worthless when they present it to investors. Whether the funding source comes from a bank or VC, they will want to see a monthly (12 months) build to a quarterly (12 quarters) to an annual (5 years). In other words, they (and you should) want to see if the cash you're asking for will cover the needs within the financing period. This software won't support such a basic, critical requirement.

Don't waste your money. This software is amateur.

I find the ideas solid and the package layout is good . It is just too rigid. You have to stay between their lines and if you deviate it becomes an "export, cut and paste thing". You cannot modify within their software. So if you have any customized charts or such like, these need to be store in a seperate file while the text etc. of the business plans is kept in the dedicate Business Plan Pro software.Overall it is not a "bad " product just not as flexible as you would want it.

Business Plan Pro is better than a sharp stick in the eye, but not much better. That 5 star review sounds like it was written by a corporate shill. Let me tell you about BP Pro

Business Plan Pro is a half-fast program. It has some of the functionality of Excel but doesn't allow linking between worksheets. It has some of the functionality of Word, but you can't remove a row once you have inserted a heading. For example, if you decide that you don't need a "Personal Assistant" you still have a row in the personel spreadsheet that has to be edited later. The formula backtracker is cumbersome, it takes you back to the precedents, but doesn't have a return feature. These are only but a few of the many built-in aggrievations. Everytime you try and get some detail, it refers you to the Premier edition which costs $250. That's insulting.

If you are starting a business for the first time, my advice is to sign up for a night course on business plans and use the software they give you.

Like most people starting a business, I don't have much of a finance background and have not had to write a business plan before. Based on a recommendation from a friend, I checked out Business Plan Pro.

The software helped me the whole way through and the sample plans were a huge help. Each plan that I looked at was over 35 pages and included all the financials for the business. I was very impressed by the level of writing in the samples and used some of the examples to help with my own writing.

The financial help was enormous. I could not have done it without the software. It helped me build my sales forecast and cash flow, something I could not have done on my own.

I have sold at least three different software packages in my previous business as a consultant and am truly amazed at the capabilities being offered by Simply Accounting Pro at such affordable pricing. I am starting a ditribution business and looked extensively at Quick Books Premier but then decided on Simply Accounting because of its completeness, ease of use and of course the cost. I highly recommend it and to those who don't care about accounting and want a simple way to track their transactions, like our friend who has given a poor rating to this package, I recommend using a spreadsheet. It is like wanting to drive and not wanting to learn the code!

Who are they trying to kid. If you don't care to know much about accounting, then don't bother trying this product. They tout the ease of use of this product because it "uses wizards." However, given that I'm a leading usability specialist, I can tell you that just because they use wizards doesn't mean that it's easy to use. As a matter of fact, it's laborious. Granted, my only experience is with the free trial period, but I went through the trouble of importing my QuickBooks file only to find out that Simply Accounting didn't import any of my accounts. So I had to try to set up my accounts from scratch.

The first thing that I noticed that might be trouble was that you have to create arcane 4-digit account numbers for every type of account you set up. Like I care what number it is, it's just a checking account!

I run a small consulting company, 3 people, and selected "professional services" as the type of company, yet the software set itself up for inventory, sales of inventory, tax on inventory etc. As I said, I set it up as a professional services company. We don't have no stinking inventory!!!

My first task in the free trial period was to send out an invoice. I never completed the task. The software had me jump through hoops, asking me to set up primary bank accounts (which I could not figure out), accounts for sales, etc. I finally gave up. As I said, I'm a usability specialist and I base my usability evaluations on how well the user can complete their task with the product, not on how many wizards the product has. Based on my (limited) experience with this product, this software failed to help me complete the most basic of tasks, send out an invoice.

While I despise QuickBooks and the way Intuit treats its users, I still haven't found a suitable replacement for the small business person. Simply Accounting certainly isn't a good choice, unless of course you are an accountant. But I'm not. I'm just another small business person who doesn't want to spend a moment more than I have to to manage my finances. I need to focus my time on my business, not contorting myself every which way just to use a piece of software.

In summary, though I was looking for anything that could even remotely replace the big gorilla, QuickBooks, sadly Simply Accounting isn't it.

Auto Recover is a new default feature in Excel X that automatically saves your document every 10 minutes. If you lose a document, for example, from a power outage or system crash, Excel X will proceed to automatically recover all files in reverse save order so that the focus will be on the file that was saved last. Keyboard shortcuts are now customizable in Excel X, letting you set up your keyboard as you are used to when working in other Office for Mac-based applications such as Word X.

Excel X for Mac includes a calculator, a first-for-the-Macintosh feature that enables novice spreadsheet users to discover and understand the concept of formulas in cells. Microsoft's strength is in the department of "bells and whistles".
This makes their products somewhat complicated to learn and use and takes up lots of memory. I did like some features, for example, the notes for a field showing up in a little balloon that can be viewed without having to open a new window, as in an earlier version.
I had some difficulties with the installation but was talked through the procedure by a very patient tech.
In order to install any one item of the "Office" suite you must install many Megabytes of other stuff that you don't need, but you can trash much of that later.
Customizing the toolbar is a rather difficult and tedious process, especially when you cannot see the function of a tool ,unless you are in the mode in which you cannot trash it.
But overall, once you get it all set up, it does what it is supposed to do , even though the average user will never use most of the many functions. ... Read more
