Good but save your money
Okay maybe if your connection is slow or you don't have access to broadband you can buy this CD,but if not why bother?
OpenOffice.org is freely available online as is Firefox.
I use and love both so don't get me wrong here,but the price is a little too much but then again it goes to the developers.
Ooo is a great alternative to Microsoft Office and even Star Office.It does everything the same for free! I often do my homework and essays with Ooo Writer. And Firefox is what I am using to write this very review!It's one of the best Mozilla-based browsers besides the Mozilla Suite/Netscape 7 itself.

Open Office and FireFox, wonderful software, excellent value
Open Office reads and writes in MS Office 97/2000/XP formats for Word, Excel and PowerPoint and can export documents to PDF format.
One of the best advantages is inexpensive upgradability.I purchased Office 95 ($400+ dollars) in 1996.When Office 97 came out, my Office 95 software would not open office 97 formatted documents.I toughed it out till I purchased Office 2000 ($500+ dollars) now Office XP and 2003 have came out (do we see a pattern here)?I suspect that it will be much less expensive to buy a $30 upgrade to Open Office to read and writedocuments created by upcoming versions of Micro$oft Office.
FireFox: "ad ware" resistant, pop up blocker and tabbed browsing... love it.

Great products, great price, great source!
Open Office and Firefox are two of the very best of their kind.Both give users the ability to work with the same files, websites and so on that they're used to, without the worries of bad macros, spyware, and other problems associated with the proprietary products these replace.Better yet, they're both faster, more powerful, and more up-to-date than those old dinosaurs.Perhaps best of all, these programs look and operate the same on Windows, Mac, Linux and other platforms, making it much easier if you or your family needs the flexibility.

Open Source Packaged and Marketed as It Deserves
OpenOffice.org and Firefox are both fantastic products lacking one simple ingredient. Despite their technical merits, the marketing efforts for these products have not been impressive... until now.

Consider other product
Be aware!! The First Accounting 2004 version is not backward compatible with the older version. Whatever information you built in the previous version can not be transferred to 2004 unless you upgrade to premium version, which means you have to pay a lot more for something you don't need and for just getting the conversion support. ... Nifty and Practical
This software provides a nifty and practical way to customize your own personal checks, rather than purchase pre-printed or bank checks. I went to an office supply store to purchase the actual black check supply, for around twenty-two bucks for 750 checks, and printed out my own quickly and simply using Windows 98 and an inkjet printer. Someone else who uses the same software gave me the idea of printing my photo on the checks as a customizing idea, as she did herself. Nice idea, I think, or perhaps a nice background, using a favorite photo.

I ran into one stumbling block when attempting to enter my bank account information in the step-by-step on-screen process; I had NO old checks from my account, and the setup requires that you enter the little hyphenated number which is found near the center of your checks. Upon contacting my financial institution for this number, I was disappointed to find that a representative there was unwilling to give me that simple, non-confidential information. It just so happened that while insisting to her that I needed it for printing my new personalized checks (as she insisted I only need the routing # and account #), I happened to see that it was printed on my deposit slips, which I still had left. In other words, if for some reason you too have no checks available, simply check a deposit slip from your account if you have one, and all the information will be there.

Great Product
This is a really great product for people who are tired of spending high dollars on bank checks. I've been using these checks and this software for years. The steps for entering your bank data in order for it to print on your check is very simple. You can print checks to carry around with you so that they can be handwritten in stores, etc. and you can print check amounts and vendor names with your various computer programs, i.e. Quick Books, Quicken, etc. You can put clip art on your checks, maybe a Christmas Tree at Christmas and so on. Hard to use and operate. Be aware!
This software and some others in the line are like the cars from the 80's, use old technologies. The design is old and look and feel is old as well! I would think as if I was driving an 80's car when I used a newer technology software. Now is a time to use software that use .Net technology.

Switch and Bait
I don't know who wrote the reviews which rated this product above 1 star but they must work for Peachtree. An accounting system that does not even let you change the due date on a customer invoice after it is entered is no accounting system. Peachtree's answer to this and other short comings is, "You should buy our top of the line system."

I urge anyone considering this system to purchase to reconsider.

Superior value, superior integrity
This is a simple, yet impressive product. We switched to Peachtree from MAS90 when we downsized. It costs only a 10th of what MAS90 cost, but compares very well. In some ways better, like Payroll. Anyone that can't balance their accounts with this product has a poor understanding of running a business, and using accounting software. It certainly does not have the features that larger companies need, but if you do less than $5,000,000 per year in sales, and won't grow past 6 or 7 users, then this is a good buy for many types of businesses. Especially because it has a great import/export wizard, to help you get it going, and then later to migrate out of it if you grow!

Small business owner
I have found this to be the best GAAP accounting software available. In responce to the vetrinary clinc review. I'm not sure why you've had so much trouble I've found Peachtree's support to awesome, great techs with above average knowledge.
I guess you MUST first understand accounting before using this product. I highly recommend this product for start up companies.

wonderful product
I found Peachtree Complete 2004 to be an excellent product for my small business. The set up program made it very easy to get started and with all the sample information already in the product, it was very easy to copy the information to set up my own books. The fact that it automatically converted my information from QuickBooks made it even easier. The support plan seems a little pricey, but well worth it. Reasons not to buy a Mac
A "friend" persuaded me to buy an iMac last year. "You will love how much easier it is to use than that Windows junk you're used to." Since the price of an iMac was reasonable, I decided to take a chance.

When I bought and installed QuickBooks Pro 4.0, I very quickly learned why Apple is failing.

The Windows 95/98 version of QuickBooks Pro 99 can do anything. I have been using Intuit products since 1990, and have been spoiled by the way such a simple program can handle complicated transactions along with daily business. (When I worked for an SAP consulting firm, the managing partner said he was afraid to make us implement SAP R/3, because QuickBooks performed circles around that million dollar software!)

But when you install QuickBooks on your Mac, you return to the stone ages. QuickBooks for DOS systems could do more.

I called Intuit's customer support (where I tend to get excellent treatment, because I've used the product for so long -- one of my solutions is posted to their techie's help manual) to complain. The techie was very nice and very frank. I should not expect an upgrade of QuickBooks for the Mac any time soon, because the market was not strong enough.

And while Microsoft enables you to transfer QuickBooks data from the Mac platform to Windows 98, the Mac OS will not permit a transfer in this direction. I therefore spent a week of very valuable time re-entering data and setting up the company file.

A shame that Mac-only users will never get to know how good this software really is.

Still Lacking
I wanted software to run my business that would be simple to use without an accounting background, as I understood this to be. I was totally misled when I found that conversion from later versions of Quicken were impossible and had to manually enter every transaction. Not only did I have to hire an accountant to assist with Quickbooks Pro 4.0 set-up, but even she had trouble classifying information. There are still some unresolved issues in the set-up procedure. I have listed my personal opinion on the following:

Negatives:

1. Sorting reports can not be done by "Memo".

2. When printing checks, you must manually count how many you are about to print and they still can't be sorted alphabetically. This is crazy!

3. Customer support leaves you on hold forever.

4. Customizing invoices is ridiculously limited.

5. No calendar window.

Positives:

1. Report formatting is effortless.

2. Entering data is as easy as in Quicken.

3. "Find" is more extensive and one of its better features.

4. Being able to print business forms is wonderful.

5. Memorized transactions function is efficient and very useful.

I have tried 3 business accounting programs and I do think that this could be one of the better programs for small businesses even though it falls short in improving on the simplest enigmas. Intuit claims this to be easy to use, which I tend to disagree with. If Intuit would improve their customer support lines and email feedback and also correct the basic problems listed above, I feel they would have a superlative accounting software program. ... Rotten software, worse support
There's bad software, awful software, and "aw just stick a fork in me" rotten software. "Mycheck Writer..." by Elibrium falls under the third category.

Installation is painful. Operation gives repeated "...dll failed" errors. Installs a very fussy printer driver called "greatland" (from another company with competing check printing software), which will fail suddenly. Installation also places hundreds of awful fonts in your windows fonts directory, which are not removed through the uninstall process.

After painfully getting an install completed on my laptop in Aug '03, I was able to print using my inkjet for a few months. (No, you don't really need a laser printer and the MICR toner cartridge that they try to sell you. At least I didn't. Banks and businesses had no problems with my inkjet printed checks.)

Then out of the blue, it starts printing my checks without the routing/transit/account number line. Of course, after a few months of use with only limited trouble, I didn't notice. (My awful mistake, of course.) Suddenly, my checks are being returned to me with comments like "The document enclosed is not a legal banking instrument". Great.

I try re-printing the checks, but now the "greatland printer driver" is giving me errors to the effect of "print command received from illegal application. Contact technical support"

I'm on the horn with my bank now to get some regular checks printed. There's no way I'm going to waste my $24 or more on their technical support.

NOT RECOMMENDED It worked okay then.........
Was working fine with my HP laser and XP, simple record keeping. Then the darn thing started printing checks from 2 months ago instead of the one I wanted to print. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROGRAM TO ANYONE. I had to go back and make sure the right check numbers were with the right checks because it was also changing check numbers on me. Tech supoort for $24.95, + per minute fees. Now that takes guts especially on a product that is only 3 months old. Shop around, trust me.

Don't try to use this product with a 300 dpi laser printer..
It won't support lasers less than 600 dpi. No were is this disclosed. Didn't find out until I purchased an $80 MICR toner for my printer. Wow! I could have bought 6 boxs of check for the price of the MICR toner alone. Waste of money!

Doesn't print in W2K. Lousy tech support
I bought it for win2000. Their print driver doesn't work - doesn't print at all. The company acknowledges the problem on the their web site and gives a "wonderful" recommendation: "Cancel all printing jobs and try again"!...? Their live tech support is [expensive] plus per minute charges. Email support answered in 24 hours and even offered call me. The guy was nice but his advise absolutely useless. After going through the routine of checking my printer's settings he sent a word file with 18 steps instructions. ... The file tells you how to uninstall and, then, reinstall the software. What a brilliant solution!... When I told them that it still didn't work, they sent an email saying, basically, that they know about the problem and have no idea what the hell is going on. Would never buy anything from this company and, hope, neither will you.

Can't get Support for issues
Had problems getting the CheckDesigner to print checks properly, the check on the screen looks nothing like what comes out of the printer. Basically useless.
I use Quicken and Quickbooks, but now the checks come out fuzzy. There is a driver that MyChecks installs that intercepts the print job (Greatland Driver), and now only 1 in 3 checks prints correctly. That's not saving any money - wasting a lot of paper. I guess they think they can keep you buying their check paper because the software works so bad. A bit slimey don't you think? ... Read more
