Hard to use and operate. Be aware!
This software and some others in the line are like the cars from the 80's, use old technologies. The design is old and look and feel is old as well! I would think as if I was driving an 80's car when I used a newer technology software. Now is a time to use software that use .Net technology.

Switch and Bait
I don't know who wrote the reviews which rated this product above 1 star but they must work for Peachtree. An accounting system that does not even let you change the due date on a customer invoice after it is entered is no accounting system. Peachtree's answer to this and other short comings is, "You should buy our top of the line system."

I urge anyone considering this system to purchase to reconsider.

Superior value, superior integrity
This is a simple, yet impressive product. We switched to Peachtree from MAS90 when we downsized. It costs only a 10th of what MAS90 cost, but compares very well. In some ways better, like Payroll. Anyone that can't balance their accounts with this product has a poor understanding of running a business, and using accounting software. It certainly does not have the features that larger companies need, but if you do less than $5,000,000 per year in sales, and won't grow past 6 or 7 users, then this is a good buy for many types of businesses. Especially because it has a great import/export wizard, to help you get it going, and then later to migrate out of it if you grow!

Small business owner
I have found this to be the best GAAP accounting software available. In responce to the vetrinary clinc review. I'm not sure why you've had so much trouble I've found Peachtree's support to awesome, great techs with above average knowledge.
I guess you MUST first understand accounting before using this product. I highly recommend this product for start up companies.

wonderful product
I found Peachtree Complete 2004 to be an excellent product for my small business. The set up program made it very easy to get started and with all the sample information already in the product, it was very easy to copy the information to set up my own books. The fact that it automatically converted my information from QuickBooks made it even easier. The support plan seems a little pricey, but well worth it. Reasons not to buy a Mac
A "friend" persuaded me to buy an iMac last year. "You will love how much easier it is to use than that Windows junk you're used to." Since the price of an iMac was reasonable, I decided to take a chance.

When I bought and installed QuickBooks Pro 4.0, I very quickly learned why Apple is failing.

The Windows 95/98 version of QuickBooks Pro 99 can do anything. I have been using Intuit products since 1990, and have been spoiled by the way such a simple program can handle complicated transactions along with daily business. (When I worked for an SAP consulting firm, the managing partner said he was afraid to make us implement SAP R/3, because QuickBooks performed circles around that million dollar software!)

But when you install QuickBooks on your Mac, you return to the stone ages. QuickBooks for DOS systems could do more.

I called Intuit's customer support (where I tend to get excellent treatment, because I've used the product for so long -- one of my solutions is posted to their techie's help manual) to complain. The techie was very nice and very frank. I should not expect an upgrade of QuickBooks for the Mac any time soon, because the market was not strong enough.

And while Microsoft enables you to transfer QuickBooks data from the Mac platform to Windows 98, the Mac OS will not permit a transfer in this direction. I therefore spent a week of very valuable time re-entering data and setting up the company file.

A shame that Mac-only users will never get to know how good this software really is.

Still Lacking
I wanted software to run my business that would be simple to use without an accounting background, as I understood this to be. I was totally misled when I found that conversion from later versions of Quicken were impossible and had to manually enter every transaction. Not only did I have to hire an accountant to assist with Quickbooks Pro 4.0 set-up, but even she had trouble classifying information. There are still some unresolved issues in the set-up procedure. I have listed my personal opinion on the following:

Negatives:

1. Sorting reports can not be done by "Memo".

2. When printing checks, you must manually count how many you are about to print and they still can't be sorted alphabetically. This is crazy!

3. Customer support leaves you on hold forever.

4. Customizing invoices is ridiculously limited.

5. No calendar window.

Positives:

1. Report formatting is effortless.

2. Entering data is as easy as in Quicken.

3. "Find" is more extensive and one of its better features.

4. Being able to print business forms is wonderful.

5. Memorized transactions function is efficient and very useful.

I have tried 3 business accounting programs and I do think that this could be one of the better programs for small businesses even though it falls short in improving on the simplest enigmas. Intuit claims this to be easy to use, which I tend to disagree with. If Intuit would improve their customer support lines and email feedback and also correct the basic problems listed above, I feel they would have a superlative accounting software program. ... 2003 Multi User FLAWs - No Web Support Answers
Beware, both the 2002 and 2003 multi-user packages have a significant flaw(s) that are extremely frustrating.

Peachtree has a problem in that it will automatically duplicate PO / Invoice / Sales Order numbers without warning. It has no system to protect against the duplication. The objective is automation, not having to select numbers from a paper log.

If you try to run multiple workstations on a SOHO wireless network, expect major problems. You wil probably experience table locks that require constant reboot. We had to move from wireless to wired LAN - using the same router. Also had to purchase new LAN NIC cards. Problem fixed. The wireless network performed flawlessly for Peer to Peer and Internet access.

Overall the system has some merits, but the goal of Peachtree is to maximize revenue from support calls. Don't expect to find any relevant information on the Peachtree website. You will find more on USENET Newsgroups.

Since we switched from QuickBooks to Peachtree, recommend that those in need research other systems. Our only reason for switching fromQB was to have assembly capabilities. The new version of QB now has that feature. ... Read more

Don't Believe Everything You Read...
The ad for this product on Amazon.com says "Rebate in Box" ($120). The thing it does not say is that you must own a prior version of Quickbooks to get the rebate. I ordered the product thinking I would get a rebate. After opening the box to turn in the rebate, I find out that I do not qualify for the rebate and now I cannot return the product because the box is open. ... Read more

QuickBooks Pro - Quick to end support.
QuickBooks 2001 is no longer supported. I assume that Intuit will drop support at the rate of one edition per year. It is more like leasing the software for 3 years, not buying it. Even the extra cost features became unusable.

Easy to Use, NOT Easy to Set Up>from the QuickBooks Guru
People that are disappointed with the software usually have tried to set this up themselves without help. I have been a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor since inception of the program, and my MAIN job is FIRST to set up the program correctly. Once it is set up, it is easy to train most anyone to use most of the functions, especially in the 2002 Version.

Intuit Customer Service is minimal at best, I agree---but that is why you should call a CERTIFIED advisor in your area (but with the QB remote access, ANYplace is adaptable now) with an accounting background. It will save you time, and aggravation !

I have used every other accounting software package out there, and I really just recommend QBooks for most businesses. It's functionality, ease of use and reporting functions are GREAT!. I have all my clients up and running with deposits, checks, invoices, emailing statements, job profitabilities etc etc.within 2 hours WHEN it's been set up properly !

I have taken many clients off other software out there in the market that has cost them many lost hours, wasted money and MUCH frustration. Intuit has raised their prices, I agree---(something I am NEVER fond of) BUT it's STILL a big Bang for the Buck ...from someone that KNOWS the product very very well!

Intuit needs to wake up!
Quickbooks seems to be very limited, 5 concurrent user limit regardless of how many copies you buy.

During the period of time I've tried to contact them through their E-commerce site, I have discovered that they have absolutely insulated themselves from the public... not a good sign.

The QB software can't be downloaded even from the Intuit site, yet requires post installation activation. In other words you have to wait till they get around to sending the CD to you, and then after getting it loaded you have to ask them for permission to use it. Upgrade your hardware and you could end up jumping through hoops of fire in order to get it working again.

After spending several hours over two days trying to access their E-commerce site, which cannot be accessed unless you set up your own system security to basically drop its trousers, I have come to the conclusion that Intuit is poorly equipped to service the business management and accounting needs of other companies if they manage their own site security, marketing and PR so poorly.

After all of this, they were unable to find my order to cancel it.

Do you want your small business accounting software to be writen by a company that can't find it long enough to pull it's thumb out?

I will not buy Intuit software again until such time as they return to the practices that built their reputation.

Forget about it!
Intuit: one of the worst customer service companies on the planet. I have had serious problems with my tech support plan, which I paid a lot of money for, over the past 6 months. It took hours of phone calls over months to finally get someone to do something. You know what they did after all that? Gave me one month of tech support for free! How wonderful! What an insult! 6 months of down time on their eSupport, I have purchased their products every year for 15 years, I spent endless hours trying to get this resolved, and they give me 1 month!

Also, when they say that with the Premier tech support plan that they GUARANTEE that you won't be on hold for more than 10 minutes, I was on hold for 45 minutes and finally had to hang up. I never did reach a tech support person. When I talked to them about it later, you know what I found out? "Guarantee" means nothing whatsoever. They wouldn't do anything for me.

So do I think you should buy this product? Not on your life! Seek a software company that cares at least a little bit about the people who are keeping them in business (their customers). ... Read more

Save your money!
I bought this software to set up the books for a catering company. What a waste of time and money! The few instructions for how to use the software are vague and therefore not instructive. There is a "Video Advisor" section that supposedly walks you through set up and use, but the advisor and the software do not match up. For example, he talks about how to get started in the File Set Up screen, which does not even exist. I called the customer service number and the guy on the phone was very short, not helpful, and said he would e-mail me better instructions, which he never did. I should have just spent the money on Quickbooks in the first place instead of pour it down this COSMI drain. ... Read more
